A College Preparatory Learning Environment

NMMI’s nationally accredited college preparatory high school program is an outstanding course of study.  Our faculty members have at least a master’s degree and many have doctorates.  Small class sizes (average 16:1) enables close student-teach interaction and individual attention.  More than 95 percent of NMMI high school graduates go on to a 4-year college or continue their college education through NMMI’s junior college division.

To earn a high school diploma, 23 units are required and must include: four years of English, three years of Mathematics (Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry, Trigonometry, or Algebra III), two years of Laboratory Science, two years of the same foreign language, three years of social sciences including World History, U.S. History and one semester each of American government and economics. Other requirements include one semester each of communications, computer literacy and practical or fine arts. We do not provide adaptive programming or services, curricular adaptation or special education alternative programming.  Students are required to take the ACT Exam as a requirement for graduating from high school, and our graduates’ average score continually ranks above both the state and national averages.

Dual Enrollment

Qualified students may be permitted to take college courses while in high school.  It is possible for committed high school students to complete a year or more of college credit during their high school years, or, in fact, graduate from both the high school division and the junior college division simultaneously.

Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC)

NMMI’s Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps program is the largest, most successful in the nation, having been designated an Honor School with Distinction (or its equivalent) continuously since 1909.   JROTC encourages students to become better citizens. With an emphasis on leadership training and skills building, JROTC helps develop the whole person by including financial planning in the curriculum alongside wilderness survival.  All high school cadets are members of the JROTC; however, cadet participation in the JROTC program does not require military service. The goal of the program is to equip students with the tools they need to achieve excellence in all aspects of their lives.

Service Academy Preparation

For high school juniors and seniors, our demanding college preparatory curriculum can establish a firm foundation for securing a nomination to one of the nation’s five Service academies (US Military Academy, US Naval Academy, US Air Force Academy, US Coast Guard Academy, US Merchant Marine Academy).  Our Service Academy Liaison Office assists cadets in the application and nomination process.
